TEV AVIV (Sputnik) – The Israeli military does not use civilian planes as a shield when operating in the skies over Syria, considering air traffic security in the region to be one of the highest priorities, a senior officer told Sputnik.

“The airspace over Syria is an area of ​​heavy air traffic. We have developed a mechanism to minimize the risks. We consider the safety of civilian and military aircraft in the region to be our top priority. not use the movement of civilian aircraft as an advantage [while operating in the skies over Syria]”said the officer.

Earlier this week, Rear Admiral Vadim Kulit, deputy head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties in Syria, said four Israeli Air Force F-16 tactical fighters entered space. Syrian air force in the US-occupied Al-Tanf area in Homs and struck a phosphate ore processing plant in the Palmyra area.

The Syrian army, however, decided not to use air defense systems, as there were two civilian planes in the affected area.
